Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Project Consultancy
The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), a mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol, attains the twin aspirations of promoting sustainable development in non-Annex I (Developing) countries while facilitating compliance with the greenhouse gas mitigation commitments of Annex I (Developed) countries. Adoption of mitigation measures which not only accelerates transition to a low carbon economy but is an important tool to escalate sustainable business practices as "carbon price" is established for every tonne of reduced greenhouse gas emission.Prioritizing Technologies promotes sustainable business practices and encourages business corporations to invest in environment friendly efficient technologies. FICCI QUALITY FORUM (FQF) - CDM Division specializes in addressing the climate change management efforts and thus facilitates the clean investment & financing for sustainable energy options. The team delivers tailor made solutions specific to the various stages of CDM validation leading to Project Registration and realization of Carbon Revenues.
FICCI QUALITY FORUM (FQF) - CDM Division encourages the producers and consumers to invest in products, technologies and processes which would reduce the carbon emissions generated from the business-as-usual practice and also optimize the energy used to run the business. With their years of experience in Kyoto Protocol and associated mechanisms they have the capability to provide quality technical assistance to implement green house gas mitigating project activities in areas like biomass, solar photovoltaic, wind, hydrogen, renewable energy options and all other sectors identified (UNFCCC) leading to direct or indirect Green House Gas (GHG) emission reductions.
CDM Consultancy includes
- Preparation of Project Concept Note (PCN) and Project Design Document (PDD)
- Facilitation for Approval from Designated National Authority (DNA)
- Facilitation for Stakeholder Consultation
- Facilitation of Validation activity by Designated Operational Entity (DOE) and Registration of the project activity by UNFCCC CDM Executive Board (EB).
- Providing technical assistance for Monitoring and Verification Protocol.
- Preparation of Monitoring Report and facilitation of the Verification activity for issuance of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) by Designated Operational Entity (DOE)
Voluntary Emission Reduction (VER) Project Consultancy
The voluntary market puts forward the prospect to develop : (i) projects who have strong sustainable development benefits but are currently not included or do not have substantial uptake under CDM/JI; and (ii), small-scale projects that are unapproachable to CDM/JI due to transaction costs.Moreover. in Kyoto driven mechanism, the crediting time period for Certified Emission Reduction (CERs) only commences with successful registration of projects, but the emission reductions occurred prior to the CDM Registration do not have the prospect to claim and commercialize their emissions reductions, despite the emissions being real , permanent, quantifiable, never double-counted or double-sold, and independently-verified. These retroactive carbon emission reductions can however, be sold in the voluntary market.
FICCI QUALITY FORUM - CDM Division has the relevant knowledge and expertise to develop strategies to ensure that their clients benefit from voluntary market activities through accessing finance from the voluntary carbon market.
The services under VER Project Consultancy Project include development and delivery of voluntary carbon technical services:
- Voluntary Project Screening
- Voluntary Project Development as Per Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) Criteria and Processes
- Identification and Application of appropriate GHG quantification standards
Carbon Footprint Assessment
Services to measure monitor and manage carbon emissions for clients who intend to take action for the emissions they produce. FICCI CDM Team conducts a detailed study of the client's business functions, covering all aspects of energy, travel, transport and process emissions. With the results of the study, the carbon reduction proposal is crafted thereby creating financial benefits through operational cost savings.FICCI CDM Consultants will design the strategy which will typically cover the following areas:
- Understanding of the client's vision and their purpose offset campaign.
- Calculating & Reviewing of the organization's Carbon Footprint
- Recognize the required level of offset and design the reduction strategy
- Reach the offset target through implementation of carbon minimizing strategies and
- Developing system towards consistent results
CDM Due Diligence
Due Diligence, describes the necessary accuracy with which a project will be assessed and analyzed before it is purchased. Due Diligence check includes a weakness/strength analysis of the project, analysis of the purchase-related risks, sound assessment of the project and comprises a technical and a financial review, including a site visit.FICCI QUALITY FORUM - CDM Division conducts Due Diligence Programs and their framework of review enables to perform the following scope of services:
- Due diligence of potential CDM projects.
- Reviewing and drafting their technical, economical and environmental details.
- Determining the feasibility of such potential CDM projects.
- Identification of CER reduction opportunities
- Development of request for proposal (RFP) and evaluation criteria for selecting consultant for framing Project Identification Note (PIN) and Project Design Document (PDD) and completing approval and registration process.
- Regular monitoring and review of deliverables in the process of host country approval, DOE validation and registration.
- Establishing the monitoring and verification plan and commercialization of carbon credits by assessment of various market perspectives.
- Training and Capacity Building
Capacity Building
FICCI Quality Forum - CDM Division works on Capacity Building and awareness related to the Climate Change Mechanism defined in the Kyoto Protocol.Activities include:
- Regional awareness workshops and information programmes in pan India and in South Asian Association For Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries. The purpose of the regional workshops is to bring together the key stakeholders, to exchange information and map the path forward in CDM activities
- Presentations and discussion panels provide insights on the requirements and challenges related to CDM Process and Kyoto protocol designed Search Results United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) standardization in various fields like industrial systems, power generation, buildings, transport, energy management etc.
- Events, seminars and training sessions are organized to impart institutional Capacity Building and have been acknowledged and appreciated widely. The interactions during the knowledge sharing sessions benefit the participants in addressing the capability gaps leading to improved productivity at their organizations.
